Beautiful plain dyed mulberry silks for everyone

Daywear, eveningwear, bridalwear, lingerie, menswear, interiors and more

Pongees Ltd has been specialising in luxurious plain dyed 100 per cent mulberry silks for 95 years, working with mills around the world to deliver the best quality, colour options and price to all lovers of the Queen of Fabrics; our heritage, though, goes back to the 19th century. Our silks are sought after by designers working within many market sectors, including fashion, interiors, bridal and costumes.

We pride ourselves on delivering a five-star customer experience to everyone – whether they are a famous couture house, a fledging designer, a student or a member of the public looking for a one-time purchase. Our minimum order is just 1 metre.

All our fabrics are stock supported and our UK headquarters team aims to process orders for meterage or samples the same day, for next day delivery in the UK.  However we have customers all over the world. For those in the EU we provide a specialist delivery service so with a VAT or equivalent national tax number,  buyers can receive their orders fast and free of any additional import charges – just as they did pre-Brexit.

Most of our fabrics are 100 per cent silk, with a few blends with other natural or synthetic fibres to meet the demand for fabric with specific characteristics and price points.

Our natural and dyed fabrics are beautiful on their own but are also an ideal base to be transformed into innovate designs with the addition of techniques such as printing, embroidery or pleating.

When it comes to sustainability, we continually assess our fabrics and business practices to become more eco-friendly.  Our mills have OEKO-TEX accreditation and utilise production from GOTS certified sources.

While silk is an inherently sustainable fibre, Pongees has collections that are even more eco-friendly. Our handwoven wild silks are produced from the cocoons of silkworms that are reared on protected bushes in the wild, feeding naturally on the leaves of indigenous trees; there are also tulles with zero, or reduced, levels of formaldehyde – a chemical widely-used in fabric dyeing and finishing processes, including crease and water resistance.

For the production of hangers, shade cards, swatches, packaging components and office products, we are increasingly using recycled materials.

Pongees® is a registered trademark. This is a real achievement as it is rare for a generic word such as Pongees to be trademarked. We were able to demonstrate that the textile industry, in its broadest sense, associates Pongees with the activity and products of Pongees Ltd.
